A new container line from Ocean Network Express started calling at Muuga harbour

Riia Sillave, CEO of HHLA TK Estonia, also welcomed the addition of the BBX Service to Muuga. “The addition of ONE’s ship to the regular line at our Muuga terminal is a sign that Estonia’s trade volume has the potential to grow,” said Riia Sillave.

At the beginning of February, a container ship from Ocean Network Express (ONE), one of the world’s largest shipowners, started regularly visiting the HHLA TK Estonia container terminal in Muuga harbour. The ship connects Dutch, Finnish, and Baltic ports through its BBX Service line.

The container ship Essence docked at Muuga harbour for the first time on February 2nd, and thereafter, the BBX (Baltic Bridge Express) Service will visit Estonia twice a month, following the route Rotterdam – Klaipeda – Riga – Muuga – Kotka – Rotterdam.

According to Margus Vihman, a member of the board and the commercial director of the Port of Tallinn, the addition of this new regular line strengthens Muuga harbour’s role in the Baltic Sea port network and creates new opportunities for Estonian businesses, as well as additional revenue from port fees for the Port of Tallinn.

“Additional connections to our nearby neighbors’ ports as well as to Europe’s largest commercial gateway, Rotterdam, expand business opportunities for both our exporters and importers,” noted Margus Vihman.

The ONE container ship Essence has a capacity of 1,436 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of sea containers. The vessel is 168 meters long, with a gross tonnage of 17,638. The ship flies the Dutch flag.

Ocean Network Express is a Japanese container carrier headquartered in Singapore. The company operates more than 240 vessels, serving over 165 shipping routes in 120 countries. In Estonia, the shipping company is represented by the logistics company Transocean Eesti OÜ.
